South Carolina DB Emory Floyd Plans to Enter Transfer Portal

South Carolina defensive back Emory Floyd has announced his intention to enter the NCAA transfer portal. With the spring transfer window set to open soon, the Gamecocks are already feeling its impact.

Floyd, a redshirt junior, was limited by a hamstring injury during the 2024 season and only saw action in two games—against Akron and Ole Miss—without recording any statistics. In his redshirt freshman year, he played in three games, totaling two tackles and one pass breakup.

A former four-star recruit, Floyd was ranked the 425th overall player in the nation, the 37th-best safety, and the 45th-best prospect in Georgia coming out of high school, according to composite rankings. He drew attention from several SEC programs, including Auburn, which was considered a strong contender for his commitment before he ultimately chose South Carolina. However, current SEC rules prohibit intra-conference transfers during the spring portal window.

In addition to football, Floyd also competed as a sprinter on South Carolina’s track team. Now, with the transfer portal looming, he is preparing to explore opportunities with other programs as he seeks a fresh start.
