Supporters of the Alabama Crimson Tide are not only facing a defeat against rival Tennessee, but also navigating a possible program emergency.

In a short amount of time, a group of Alabama fans has quickly become critical of Kalen DeBoer and his coaching team.

In the 2024 season, the Alabama Crimson Tide had high hopes as DeBoer took over as head coach. DeBoer, who recently reached a national championship with Washington, was among the most sought-after coaches nationally, leading to high expectations for his potential success with Nick Saban’s former program.

DeBoer got off to a good start by guiding Alabama to an exciting win over Georgia in Tuscaloosa. From that moment onwards, it has steadily deteriorated. Bama suffered a loss away at Vanderbilt and then narrowly won against South Carolina at home, a game that could have easily ended in defeat. The Tennessee Volunteers defeated the Crimson Tide 24-17 in Knoxville over the weekend.

Having suffered two defeats before the start of November and with key matchups against Missouri and LSU on the horizon, it’s understandable that some Alabama fans are starting to feel anxious about their team. The amplification of the situation occurred on Monday when offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan took the microphone to answer questions from the media.

Naturally, one of the initial inquiries raised was: What was the reason behind witnessing two Alabama wide receivers simulate jump shots during a 4th-and-1 play halted by Tennessee on Saturday?

What was his response? “We’re coaching everything on the field.” The response shocked fans, so it’s no wonder that Alabama fans were swift to criticize Sheridan on social media.

One fan expressed that things are “even more dire than anticipated.”

Another Tide supporter suggested that the offensive staff prioritize coaching the offensive line to block and gain yards, instead of emphasizing teaching the wide receivers to perform fake jump shots.

A Bama supporter criticized Sheridan as being the most ineffective offensive coordinator in two decades, while another remarked that he is out of his depth.

DeBoer might face difficult choices in the near future, but it’s unlikely that any firings or changes to the coaching staff will occur before the season is over.

Alabama will end its 2024 regular season with a home match against Missouri, then a road game against LSU. The Crimson Tide will next face Mercer at their own turf before traveling to Oklahoma for their next game. The regular season will conclude with the traditional Iron Bowl game at home against in-state rival Auburn.
