REPORTS: “Dodgers’ Dave Roberts Provides Major Injury Update on Key Duos for World Series

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts provided updates on several injured players during a Zoom call with reporters on Tuesday afternoon.

First baseman Freddie Freeman is expected to be ready for Game 1 of the World Series on Friday against the New York Yankees. Roberts also mentioned that infielder Gavin Lux should be “full go” for the World Series after recovering from a hip flexor injury sustained during the NLCS. However, the status of shortstop Miguel Rojas remains uncertain, as he missed the NLCS due to an adductor strain.

“I truly believe it was the right choice not to have him on the CS [roster] due to his health,” Roberts said. “He’s making progress and will do everything possible to be included in the World Series roster, but we need to ensure he can run and defend at his usual level. So, I’m hopeful, but not certain.”

Lux was limited in the NLCS against the New York Mets, allowing Chris Taylor to play more frequently. Taylor started two games and went 3-for-7, scoring two runs, drawing one walk, stealing a base, and striking out once.

“We did a good job of picking spots to get Lux in, like a pinch-hit opportunity, without risking a setback with his hip flexor,” Roberts noted. “With these days off, he should be fully ready by Friday.”

Lux only started two games against the Mets, going hitless in six at-bats but did earn a walk and laid down a sacrifice bunt. He sat for four games against left-handed starters during the regular season.

Rojas could face a tougher challenge in making the World Series roster, especially after Tommy Edman was named the NLCS Most Valuable Player and Kiké Hernandez continued to excel in October.

The 35-year-old infielder hasn’t played since Game 3 of the NLDS, and while participating in the World Series would be a dream for him, there may not be a spot for him on the roster.
