On the same day the NC State basketball coaches missed out on Wes Enis, they also struck out with Mackenzie Mgbako.
As information about Indiana transfer Mackenzie Mgbako’s recruitment began to emerge, it appeared that NC State’s basketball program was a frontrunner in the race.
The Wolfpack hosted Mgbako for a visit, which further suggested a strong mutual interest.
However, in an unexpected turn of events, the former Hoosier has decided against joining Will Wade and the Wolfpack. Instead, Mgbako will be heading to the SEC.
On Thursday night, On3’s Joe Tipton reported that Mgbako has committed to play for Texas A&M under new head coach Bucky McMillan. Shortly after, the program confirmed his signing with a social media announcement.

Mgbako, a former five-star recruit and McDonald’s All American, played two seasons with the Hoosiers, earning Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors in 2023-24.
Standing 6-foot-9 and weighing 222 pounds, the sophomore forward was a regular starter for Indiana. Last season, he averaged 12.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game, shooting 32.9 percent from three-point range.
Meanwhile, NC State’s basketball recruiters are now exploring other options as they look for frontcourt transfers. Their current transfer roster includes three guards, highlighted by Michigan State transfer Tre Holloman.
