Texas A&M Aggies QB Marcel Reed Shares Deep Message From Conner Weigman
Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Marcel Reed had an unexpected night to remember against the LSU Tigers.
Texas A&M Aggies quarterback Marcel Reed showcased impressive abilities during Saturday’s home game against the No. 8 LSU Tigers.
Stepping in for quarterback Conner Weigman, who was benched midway through the third quarter while A&M trailed 17-7, Reed made an immediate impact by scoring an eight-yard touchdown on his very first play.
From that moment on, LSU struggled, which could signal changes for Weigman’s status as the starting quarterback. Reed added two rushing touchdowns on consecutive drives and guided Texas A&M to finish strong with additional scoring drives.
When he left the game, Weigman had completed 6 of 18 passes for 64 yards without any touchdowns or interceptions.
Fortunately for the Aggies, this transition isn’t unfamiliar, as both quarterbacks have contributed to Texas A&M’s seven-game winning streak and 7-1 record. Their relationship is supportive, as each has expressed a commitment to the team’s success while staying prepared.
After the win, Reed spoke to the media about Weigman’s encouraging words following the coaching decision to switch quarterbacks.
“He said, ‘Let’s go. You got it,'” Reed recounted. “We are brothers and teammates. I have his back; he has mine.”
Reed may have only completed 2 of 2 passes, but one was an impressive 54-yard connection with Noah Thomas. He proved to be a dual threat, demonstrating both speed and passing skill.
His confidence shines through as well. After Weigman regained the starting position ahead of the Missouri game following a three-game absence, Reed remained supportive and wasn’t upset.
“I really wasn’t disappointed,” Reed said. “The team and I believe in Conner. I contributed to our 3-0 run, but Conner is a talented QB who has also achieved winning results. … We are both prepared when our names are called.”
Reed has likely secured his chance to be the starter going forward. However, regardless of coach Elko’s decision, the Aggies are fortunate to have two capable quarterbacks as they prepare for their upcoming road game against the South Carolina Gamecocks.
