Once again, the primary theme in the Sun Belt Conference as Week 10 approaches is parity — or the hope that someone will stand out in the league.
Georgia Southern had the opportunity to improve to 4-0 in conference play but suffered a significant setback, losing 47-19 to Ricky Rahne’s Old Dominion team. With this victory, the Monarchs took the top spot in the SBC East and now hold the tiebreaker over the Eagles.
In the SBC West, UL Monroe experienced a similar fate as Georgia Southern, failing to reach 4-0 in conference play. South Alabama defeated the Warhawks 46-17, bringing the Jaguars to a 3-1 record in the league, while Louisiana maintains its lead in the division with a 3-0 mark in conference play — now 4-0 thanks to an earlier win this week on Tuesday.
James Madison secured an important league victory against Southern Miss, improving their record to 6-2. Given the Sun Belt’s unpredictable nature from week to week, the Dukes’ 2-2 conference record doesn’t completely rule them out of contention for the top spot by the end of the regular season if they can win their remaining games.
