Bill Belichick Takes Subtle Jab at Patriots Owner Robert Kraft
Bill Belichick has made an awkward remark about New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, highlighting the strained relationship between the two. One clear indication of their frosty dynamic is Belichick’s omission of Kraft from his book, “The Art of Winning.” Despite their six Super Bowl victories together and nine appearances, Kraft was conspicuously absent from any mention in the book.
When asked during a CBS interview with Tony Dokoupil about Kraft’s exclusion, Belichick gave a pointed response.
“He’s not,” Belichick said. “It’s about my life lessons in football, and it’s really more about the ones I experienced directly.”
Dokoupil followed up by noting that Kraft wasn’t even included in the acknowledgments section, to which Belichick simply replied, “Correct.”
The conversation turned to the topic of Belichick’s departure from the Patriots when Dokoupil referred to Kraft’s previous comments about Belichick being fired. Belichick countered by saying their split was a “mutual decision.”
Belichick had a storied 24-year tenure as head coach of the Patriots, securing 17 AFC East titles, including 11 consecutive between 2009 and 2019, along with six Super Bowls. However, his later years in Foxborough were marked by struggles, especially after Tom Brady’s departure in 2020. The Patriots posted a 29-36 record with just one playoff appearance in the four seasons following Brady’s exit.
Now 73, Belichick is continuing his coaching career as head coach of the North Carolina Tar Heels.
