BREAKING: Oregon Dominates as Unanimous No. 1 in AP Poll, with Georgia and Ohio State Hot on Their Heels.

Oregon solidified its position as the top team in The Associated Press college football poll on Sunday, making a strong case for the top spot in the College Football Playoff selection committee’s initial rankings of the year.

The Ducks have maintained their number one spot in the AP Top 25 rankings for the third consecutive week, and are now unanimously chosen for the first time, after defeating Michigan by 21 points on the road.

Georgia, staying at No. 2, got one No. 1 vote last week and defeated Florida despite Carson Beck’s three interceptions.

Ohio State moved up one spot to No. 3 after defeating Penn State, extending their winning streak in the series to eight games. Number 4 Miami advanced one spot after their victory against Duke, while Number 5 Texas also moved up one spot despite not playing. Penn State, previously ranked in the top five for four polls, dropped to sixth place.

The CFP’s increase to 12 teams this year shows that defeats from strong teams against other strong teams may not automatically eliminate them from contention for the national title. The initial CFP rankings will be revealed on Tuesday and will be updated weekly leading up to the Dec. 8 bracket announcement.

Tennessee maintained its ranking at No. 7 even though they struggled throughout the fourth quarter against Kentucky, who only had three wins, and managed to win 28-18.

Indiana rose five positions to No. 8, marking its highest ranking since 2020 when it was No. 7- and its best outside of a pandemic season since the Hoosiers were No. 4 in their 1967 Rose Bowl season. The Hoosiers easily defeated Michigan State 47-10 away from home to achieve a 9-0 record for the first time ever; all victories this year have been with a margin of at least ten points.
