Mississippi State LB John Lewis Transfers to West Virginia

The West Virginia Mountaineers have strengthened their linebacker corps with the addition of former Mississippi State linebacker John Lewis, marking their third commitment from the transfer portal today.

At 6’3″ and 240 pounds, Lewis played sparingly during his first two years at Mississippi State but saw increased involvement in 2023 and 2024, accumulating 41 tackles and 4.5 tackles for loss.

His exact role in West Virginia’s defense is still uncertain, but he is expected to provide depth and serve as a rotational player behind starters like Reid Carrico, Ben Cutter, and Chase Wilson. Lewis has one year of eligibility left.

This commitment adds to an already impressive transfer portal class for West Virginia, which includes players across both offense and defense, such as quarterbacks Jaylen Henderson (Texas A&M) and Max Brown (Charlotte), as well as defensive players like EDGE Jimmori Robinson (UTSA) and linebacker Ben Bogle (Southern Illinois).
