Arizona State will be without linebacker Keyshaun Elliott for Saturday’s game against Central Florida due to a stinger injury he sustained last week, head coach Kenny Dillingham confirmed to reporters on Wednesday.
Dillingham stated that the team is taking a “precautious” approach, noting that stinger injuries can worsen if players return too quickly.
Elliott’s absence is a setback for the Sun Devils as they prepare to face a UCF team featuring running back RJ Harvey, who currently ranks third in the nation with 1,201 rushing yards in nine games.
This season, Elliott has recorded 45 tackles, one interception, one sack, and one pass deflection.
With Elliott unavailable, ASU may turn to Caleb McCullough, who has been quite productive alongside his fellow linebacker.
McCullough saw his role expand in the first half of Arizona State’s game against Utah when Elliott was suspended for a half due to a penalty. He delivered a performance that earned him the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week award, recording two interceptions and 12 tackles, including 1.5 for loss.
Dillingham did not provide any updates on running back Cam Skattebo. At the beginning of the week, Skattebo was considered doubtful to questionable due to an undisclosed injury, and Dillingham had no new information on Wednesday, as Skattebo did not participate in practice.
Despite this, ASU listed Skattebo as the starter on the depth chart released Tuesday night.
