The Houston Rockets are now in a position to pursue a trade for Phoenix Suns star Devin Booker.

After their playoff run ended with a Game 7 loss to the Golden State Warriors in the first round, the Rockets’ offseason officially begins. Despite securing the No. 2 seed in the West with a 52-win season, they were eliminated earlier than expected, which could open the door for a major trade this summer. Bleacher Report’s Zach Buckley believes Booker could be a target for the Rockets.

“Booker has long been a player of interest for Houston,” Buckley wrote. “He’s the kind of player who could really get this offense moving.”

Booker is an exceptional shot-maker and continues to improve as a shot creator. His ability to score demands defensive focus, and his skills on the ball allow him to create scoring opportunities for himself and his teammates. While Booker hasn’t had extensive playoff experience, he’s shown he can perform under pressure, and at just 28 years old, his addition wouldn’t rush the Rockets’ young core into a “win-now” scenario.

Although the Suns have stated they are not looking to trade Booker, Buckley argues that Phoenix’s roster issues and lack of assets could push them toward reconsidering. If the Suns decide to move Booker, Houston is likely to be the first team to call, and with their strong collection of assets, the Rockets may not need many negotiations to strike a deal. While Booker would come at a high price, Houston has the right resources to pull off the trade.
