CHENEY, Wash. — The Eastern Washington Eagles concluded their season with a record-breaking offensive display, scoring 77 points—the highest ever against an FCS opponent in the school’s history.
The Eagles scored a touchdown on every possession, finishing with a perfect 11-for-11 on the day. Senior Michael Wortham rushed for 109 yards and two touchdowns, while Efton Chism made 12 receptions for 157 yards, and senior Jared Taylor contributed 163 yards and three touchdowns. The senior class celebrated a strong sendoff, attributing their success to excellent team chemistry.
“Today shows what can happen when we operate as one—everyone doing their jobs without mistakes. There will always be some errors, but overall, we were all in sync,” senior quarterback Michael Wortham remarked.
Head coach Aaron Best had challenged the offense to deliver an explosive performance during practice, and they responded with over 700 yards of offense and an almost flawless outing. Kekoa Visperas completed all 14 of his passes for 206 yards and a touchdown, in addition to rushing for 48 yards and three touchdowns.
Though the Eagle defense allowed 42 points, they made a crucial interception that shifted momentum and helped Eastern expand their lead. Coach Best noted that their previous week’s win prepared them for this performance and expressed hope that it could spark a winning streak.
“We’re heading on the road to high altitude, but we’ll celebrate this victory for 24 hours. This win was achieved in a way that’s never been done here at Eastern, and we don’t want to overlook the impressive game we played,” Best stated.
With one game remaining, EWU aims for a 4-4 record in Big Sky play as they travel to Flagstaff to face the Northern Arizona Lumberjacks. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
