Here Is Projecting Where BYU Lands In College Football Playoff Rankings After First Loss

PROVO, Utah – The third edition of the College Football Playoff rankings is set to be announced on Tuesday, November 19.

A major question on everyone’s mind regarding the CFP Top 25 is how far BYU will drop following their first loss of the season. Not only did they lose, but it was also at home to a Kansas team with a losing record (4-6).

Before their loss to Kansas, BYU was ranked No. 6 in the College Football Playoff standings.

As we approach the third release of the CFP Top 25, I’m predicting a significant drop for BYU, similar to their fall in the AP Top 25. I anticipate BYU will land at No. 14 in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings, an eight-spot decline.

What to Expect in the Upcoming CFP Top 25 Reveal
BYU could still emerge as the highest-ranked Big 12 team, potentially securing a spot in the 12-team field. However, I suspect the Committee might elevate Colorado after their convincing win over Utah, especially since BYU narrowly defeated the Utes the week prior.

I foresee four Big 12 teams making the rankings this week, with Arizona State and Iowa State joining the list.

The top five in this week’s College Football Playoff rankings are likely to remain unchanged from last week: Oregon, Ohio State, Texas, Penn State, and Indiana. The intrigue begins at No. 6, previously held by BYU.

I’m predicting Alabama will surge from No. 10 to No. 6 after their recent victory over Mercer. If not Alabama, Notre Dame could take that spot as well.

It will be compelling to see how the Committee ranks several two-loss teams from the SEC. Georgia entered the mix by defeating Tennessee this past weekend.

The Committee’s decisions regarding these teams will be a key storyline in this week’s Top 25 reveal.

Keep in mind that a team’s ranking doesn’t directly determine its seed in the 12-team bracket. To understand this, start by identifying the five highest-ranked conference champions, then proceed with at-large teams until the full 12-team field is formed.
