THE FLATS – Dani Carnegie, a freshman guard from Georgia Tech, received recognition from the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) on Monday, being named ACC Co-Rookie of the Week after contributing to the Yellow Jackets’ two victories. This is Carnegie’s first weekly conference accolade in her career, sharing the honor with Kate Koval of Notre Dame.
She has made a strong start to her collegiate career, scoring in double digits in all four games so far. Currently, she leads the team with an average of 16.5 points per game and has excelled in three-point shooting. Last week, Carnegie played a key role in Georgia Tech’s wins over West Georgia and rival Georgia. She scored 15 points—leading the team offensively—against West Georgia, hitting six field goals, including three from beyond the arc.
On Sunday, she achieved her first 20-point game with 20 points in just 30 minutes against Georgia, connecting on four three-pointers to help the team secure an 83-67 win. In the ACC, Carnegie is the highest-scoring freshman and also leads in three-point percentage and total three-pointers made. Overall, she ranks fourth in the conference for three-pointers made, totaling a team-best 12 this season. This week’s ACC Player of the Week honors were also awarded to Florida State’s Makayla Timpson and Notre Dame’s Hannah Hidalgo. Georgia Tech is set to compete next in the Hawaii North Shore Showcase, starting with a match against South Dakota State on Saturday, Nov. 23.
