The Los Angeles Lakers continued their impressive run in the NBA Cup, defeating the Utah Jazz with a score of 124-118.
Rookie Dalton Knecht was the standout player, scoring 37 points and excelling from beyond the arc. He made nine three-pointers in total, including five in a row during the third quarter.
As Knecht kept hitting his shots, the crowd rallied behind him, clearly wanting him to keep shooting. However, Jazz head coach Will Hardy noted that some on his team may not have picked up on the momentum.
“In the second half, it felt like everyone in the arena knew Dalton Knecht was going to take the next shot, except for a few people,” Hardy remarked. “Unfortunately, those few were on our team.”
Hardy was clearly frustrated with his players for failing to challenge Knecht in the second half. If they had adjusted sooner, they might have secured a victory.
Despite standout performances from Knecht, LeBron James, and Anthony Davis, the Lakers only won by six points.
As a result of the loss, the Jazz now sit at the bottom of the Western Conference with a disappointing 3-11 record in the 2024-25 NBA season.
