Major Announcement for Sam Houston Bearkat

Florida International University Director of Athletics Scott Carr announced Wednesday that head men’s basketball coach Jeremy Ballard will no longer lead the program.

Ballard had been the head coach of the Panthers since 2018 and ended his tenure with 113 wins, the most by any coach in program history.

“I want to thank Jeremy for the passion and dedication he brought to the program over the past eight years, as well as the professionalism and respect he demonstrated every day,” Carr said. “Jeremy is an outstanding person and leader, and that character was reflected in the student-athletes he coached and the culture he helped build.”

Carr added that Ballard improved the program during his time at the helm.

“Jeremy leaves the program in a stronger place than when he arrived, and I appreciate the progress that was made. However, our performance on the court has not reached the level we expect. Our goal is to compete for conference titles and earn spots in the NCAA Tournament. With those expectations in mind, we will begin a comprehensive national search immediately, and there will be no additional comments until the process concludes.”

FIU has hired the executive search firm DHR Global to assist with the coaching search.
