Seahawks Add Former Colts Safety Rodney Thomas II
The Seattle Seahawks made their first free-agent signing of a player who was not on their 2025 roster, adding former Indianapolis Colts safety Rodney Thomas II on Thursday.
According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, the move could help fill the gap left by the departure of Coby Bryant, who signed with the Chicago Bears. Thomas joins Seattle as a potential starter in the secondary.
Originally selected in the seventh round of the 2022 NFL Draft by Indianapolis, Thomas started 25 games during his first two seasons. Since entering the league, he has appeared in all 68 possible games and recorded 114 tackles, 10 pass breakups, and six interceptions.
While he played just 13% of the Colts’ defensive snaps in 2025, Thomas previously handled a much larger role, including logging 960 snaps in 2023—about 82% of the team’s defensive plays.
In Seattle, Thomas will compete with Ty Okada for a starting job alongside Julian Love in the Seahawks’ secondary. Okada currently appears to be the favorite for the role, but Thomas could challenge for the spot while also providing valuable depth at the position. 🏈
