Top 2027 Tight End Sydney Padilla Sets Up Visits with Syracuse: ‘They’re a Good Program’
2027 ATH Sydney Padilla has been committed to Rutgers since January, but Syracuse has secured two visits with him moving forward.
Padilla, a standout from New Jersey, has been a top target for the Orange since he received his first offer from them in 2024. Since then, he’s emerged as one of the top recruits in his class.
Rated as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports, Padilla holds offers from several schools, including Boston College, Kentucky, and West Virginia. Despite his commitment to Rutgers, Syracuse has continued to heavily recruit him. He’s scheduled to visit Syracuse this weekend for spring practice and again on the weekend of May 29 for an official visit.
“I definitely think Syracuse is a good program and has had a lot of success with my position,” Padilla told The Juice Online.
Padilla Talks About His Upcoming Visits
Padilla is eager to learn more about the school and the coaching staff during his visits. The Syracuse coaching staff has been clear about their plan to develop him into an NFL prospect, drawing comparisons to former Orange tight end Oronde Gadsden II.
Gadsden was a Third-Team All-American in 2024, recording 73 catches for 934 yards and seven touchdowns, while setting multiple records for career receptions (141) and career yards (1,970) at Syracuse.
“They’ve explained how they would use me if I come to Syracuse and how great the experience would be,” Padilla said.
While Padilla remains committed to Rutgers, he’s keeping his options open and has set a timeline for his final decision.
“My final decision will be made during week four of the college football season,” he shared.
Padilla Reflects on His Syracuse Offer
The West Orange (NJ) High School tight end and defensive lineman is being recruited as an offensive player. His Syracuse offer came after he competed at the Franchise Camp in June 2024.
“It felt great to get my first offer,” Padilla said at the time. “But I know there’s still a lot of work to do, so I stay humble.”
Padilla expressed admiration for Syracuse’s recruitment efforts in New Jersey, particularly under Coach Fran Brown, who’s been with the team for two years.
“I like what Coach Fran is doing with New Jersey recruits,” Padilla said. “He’s giving a lot of them opportunities that are hard to get coming out of New Jersey.”
