Orioles Players Take Responsibility for Brandon Hyde’s Firing
The Baltimore Orioles made the difficult decision to fire manager Brandon Hyde on Saturday, following a disappointing start to the 2025 season. Many of the team’s players, who felt accountable for the club’s subpar 15-29 record, were deeply upset by the move and expressed how much Hyde’s departure impacted them both professionally and personally.
Shortstop Gunnar Henderson shared his appreciation for Hyde’s guidance, telling MLB.com, “He’s put me in a lot of great positions to succeed, and I can’t thank him enough for everything he’s done. I hate it for him and his family.”
Infielder Ramon Urías, who has only played under Hyde in the majors, expressed how tough the situation was. “It’s really tough. He’s the only manager I’ve played for in the big leagues so far, and obviously, I’m so grateful for the opportunity that he gave me. We’re going to miss him as a person.”

21-year-old Jackson Holliday, showing maturity beyond his years, took responsibility for the team’s role in Hyde’s firing. “I think everyone understands that. He’s not the one playing the games. We’re the ones playing the games,” Holliday said. “We haven’t lived up to our expectations, and it’s difficult.”
While the Orioles’ limited spending may have worked against Hyde, it’s clear that the team’s regression is a significant factor. Just two years ago, Baltimore won 101 games and boasted one of the most exciting young lineups in baseball. However, this season, the Orioles have struggled mightily, ranking among the bottom in runs scored, ERA, and overall defense.
It’s uncertain whether the team will improve under interim manager Tony Mansolino. In his first game as skipper on Saturday, the Orioles fell behind 7-0 after just two innings and ultimately lost 10-6 to the Washington Nationals.
