Virginia Tech Lands in Top Six for 2027 Four-Star CB Emerson Lewis

As recruiting activity begins to ramp up nationwide heading into the spring and summer, Virginia Tech is looking to build on its momentum under head coach James Franklin. After taking over a 2026 class that initially ranked outside the top 100 and elevating it into the top 25 by December, Franklin now has a full recruiting cycle to work with—and expectations are rising.

That momentum appears to be carrying over into the 2027 class. Virginia Tech was recently named one of the top six schools for four-star cornerback Emerson Lewis, who announced his list of finalists. The Hokies are joined by Arkansas, Kentucky, Louisville, Maryland, and Pittsburgh, setting up a competitive recruiting battle across both the SEC and ACC.

Lewis, a 5-foot-10, 185-pound defensive back from Calvary Day School in Savannah, Georgia, is ranked No. 305 overall in the 247Sports Composite rankings. He’s also listed as the No. 36 cornerback nationally and the No. 34 player in Georgia. In addition to his top six, he holds offers from several notable programs, including Auburn, Florida State, South Carolina, Wake Forest, SMU, West Virginia, and Georgia Tech.

Can the Hokies Secure His Commitment?

Virginia Tech currently has just one commitment in its 2027 class—three-star defensive lineman Alexander Taylor—but the program is actively pursuing several high-level prospects.

Another key name to watch is four-star quarterback Andre Adams, who also included Virginia Tech among his top six schools. Adams is expected to announce his decision on April 11, with Colorado, Mississippi State, Kentucky, Florida State, and Oregon also in contention.

With recent recruiting visits and increased traction among top prospects in Virginia and beyond, the Hokies are beginning to build real momentum. Franklin’s reputation as a strong recruiter—established during his time at Penn State, where he consistently brought in top-10 classes and elite talent—was a major reason for his hiring.

While Miami has dominated ACC recruiting under Mario Cristobal, Virginia Tech appears determined to close the gap and become a serious player on the recruiting trail moving forward.
