Cincinnati Bearcats Land Fourth Commit in 2027 Recruiting Class
Cincinnati has added another piece to its future roster, securing its fourth commitment in the 2027 class.
The Bearcats picked up their third offensive line recruit when Zay’Vion Smith, a 6-foot-5, 260-pound prospect from Warren, Ohio, announced his commitment Wednesday night. Smith, who is currently unranked, chose Cincinnati over more than a dozen programs, including Iowa State, Marshall, UConn, and Youngstown State.
Though not yet rated by major recruiting services, Smith will now develop under offensive line coach and co-offensive coordinator Nic Cardwell.
Building Depth Up Front
Current guard Evan Tengesdahl recently spoke about Cardwell’s expanded role, noting that while responsibilities have grown, the structure within the program has remained consistent. Team meetings have increased, with more full-offense sessions bringing players together to review film and build cohesion, while still maintaining position-specific work.
According to Tengesdahl, the added collaboration has helped strengthen the offense and create a more unified group.
Cardwell and the offensive line will play a key role in protecting projected starting quarterback JC French IV this season. Head coach Scott Satterfield praised French’s performance during Pro Day, highlighting his accuracy and composure while throwing to unfamiliar receivers. Satterfield expressed confidence that the quarterback has the potential for a standout year.
With this addition, Cincinnati continues to build momentum on the recruiting trail, now holding four commitments in a class that is expected to remain among the top 50 nationally, according to 247Sports.
