ST. LOUIS — On the same night Masyn Winn delivered a game-winning hit for the St. Louis Cardinals against the New York Mets, he was later involved in a single-car accident.
Winn came through with a walk-off single in the bottom of the 11th inning, lifting St. Louis to a 2-1 win and securing a series victory at home.
Later that evening, he was involved in a crash on Interstate 64 caused by wet road conditions, according to a statement from the Cardinals.
The team confirmed Winn was alone in the vehicle and received assistance from local police, as well as Cardinals security and medical personnel. He was transported to a nearby hospital, where evaluations showed he did not suffer any serious injuries.
“We are grateful that he is OK, and thank the first responders in our community who helped Masyn tonight,” the team said in a statement.
