Oregon Ducks Competing with Texas Longhorns for 4-Star WR Recruit
The Oregon Ducks are on the cusp of adding their first wide receiver to the 2027 recruiting class, but they face stiff competition from top programs, including the Texas Longhorns.
While Oregon is deep into spring practice, their efforts to strengthen the 2027 recruiting class continue unabated. The Ducks have steadily added commits and are now positioned to potentially secure their first wideout of the cycle. However, they will need to overcome significant competition along the way.
Oregon, Texas Among Finalists for Julian Caldwell
According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, Oregon is one of five finalists for 2027 four-star wide receiver Julian Caldwell, a highly sought-after recruit. The other finalists include Texas, Notre Dame, Texas Tech, and SMU. A native of Argyle, TX, Caldwell has expressed interest in staying close to home, but he remains intrigued by the prospect of playing in Eugene.
Caldwell has also drawn offers from programs like Miami, LSU, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ohio State, Texas A&M, South Carolina, Florida, Penn State, USC, Tennessee, and more. His official visits are scheduled as follows: SMU (May 1), Texas Tech (June 5), Oregon (June 12), and Texas (June 19). He also made an unofficial visit to Texas A&M last September.
On the field, Caldwell has been productive, recording 115 catches for 2,318 yards and 27 touchdowns over the 2024 and 2025 seasons, including 20 receiving touchdowns as a sophomore in 2025.
Oregon Extends Offers to Elite 2027 WRs
Caldwell is among several top wide receivers Oregon has targeted in the 2027 class. The Ducks have offered players such as five-star prospects Nick Lennear (committed to Miami), Easton Royal (committed to Texas), Monshun Sales (undecided), Dakota Guerrant (undecided), and Eric McFarland III.
Oregon previously held a commitment from four-star wide receiver Kesean Bowman, but he decommitted last September and eventually chose Tennessee.
Oregon’s 2027 Recruiting Class
While Oregon may not yet have as many commits as other programs, they have secured a strong core of talent. Current verbal commitments include four-star defensive lineman Zane Rowe, edge rusher Cameron Pritchett, and running back CaDarius McMiller, along with three-star offensive tackle Avery Mitchell and linebacker Sam Ngata. Rowe and McMiller are both from Texas, highlighting Oregon’s ability to recruit effectively in the Lone Star State, following the success of wide receiver Dakorien Moore.
With Caldwell showing interest, it remains very possible that Oregon could land him in Eugene.
