Georgia forward Jake Wilkins enters transfer portal
Georgia forward Jake Wilkins has announced that he will enter the NCAA transfer portal following the conclusion of the college basketball season.
Wilkins, the son of former Georgia star and NBA legend Dominique Wilkins, showed flashes of promise during his time with the Bulldogs, making his departure an especially tough one for the program. Known for his athleticism, he quickly made an impression with his ability to finish above the rim and deliver highlight dunks reminiscent of his father.
He now joins a growing list of Georgia players entering the portal, including Jeremiah Wilkinson, Somto Cyril, Dylan James, Jackson McVey, and Jordan Ross. So far, Marcus “Smurf” Millender and Kareem Stagg are the only players who have confirmed they will return.
The offseason has been challenging for the Bulldogs, who are coming off a first-round exit in the NCAA Tournament despite setting a program record for regular-season wins and making back-to-back tournament appearances. With so many departures, Georgia is once again facing a major roster rebuild.
A similar situation unfolded last offseason, when the team lost much of its roster but still managed a successful year. The coaching staff may look to replicate that approach through the transfer portal.
Meanwhile, key players like Blue Cain and Kanon Catchings have yet to announce their plans for next season, leaving further uncertainty about the roster.
With the transfer portal open for two weeks starting the day after the national championship game, head coach Mike White and his staff will now focus on rebuilding the team as they aim to stay competitive in the SEC after consecutive early tournament exits.
