Terrance Arceneaux Enters Transfer Portal After One Season at NC State
NC State continues to see roster turnover following its recent coaching change, as redshirt junior guard Terrance Arceneaux has entered the transfer portal after just one season with the Wolfpack. While his departure isn’t unexpected, it adds to the growing list of players moving on from the program.
Arceneaux’s decision, along with Paul McNeil’s, further signals the likely end of the Will Wade era in Raleigh, assuming both players move on for the 2026–27 season. There has been little indication that Arceneaux is considering a return after an inconsistent year.
A Season of Ups and Downs
Arceneaux transferred to NC State after spending three seasons at Houston, where he was part of a national championship run in 2025. He arrived in Raleigh expecting a larger role, potentially as a starter, but an Achilles injury and uneven early performances limited his opportunities and pushed him down the rotation.
Despite those challenges, he eventually carved out a role as one of the team’s more dependable defenders. His versatility allows him to guard multiple positions, making him an attractive option for teams seeking defensive help. However, his offensive game remains a concern, which could affect his overall appeal. It’s unclear whether new head coach Justin Gainey had plans to retain him.
Production and Outlook
Arceneaux finished the season averaging 3.8 points and 2.6 rebounds while shooting 41% from the field and 32.6% from three-point range. He was expected to develop into a consistent scoring option but never fully realized that role.
NC State’s season itself was marked by inconsistency, and Arceneaux’s uneven performance was one of several unexpected developments. The experienced transfers brought in by the coaching staff didn’t deliver as hoped, contributing to a turbulent 20-win campaign.
With Will Wade departing for LSU, the program has been left in transition, and Arceneaux’s exit is another step in that process. Even if Wade had stayed, it appeared unlikely Arceneaux would return, making his portal entry a predictable move.
