Mississippi State Remains in the Mix for Top In-State Recruit Despite SEC Competition

Mississippi State Remains in the Mix for Top In-State Recruit Mitchell Turner

Mississippi State may not be the current favorite for highly touted defensive lineman Mitchell Turner, but the Bulldogs are still firmly in contention as his recruitment continues to unfold.

Turner, a four-star prospect from Louisville, Mississippi, has spent the spring visiting several top programs, taking a measured approach as he evaluates his options. While his list is becoming clearer, Mississippi State remains in the conversation—making this a recruitment worth monitoring in Starkville.

Among the schools Turner has visited are powerhouse programs like Alabama, LSU, Ole Miss, and Texas. At the moment, Alabama appears to hold the lead, largely due to its early interest in him. Ole Miss and Texas are also strong contenders, each offering unique appeals, while LSU has made an impression following a recent visit.

Despite the stiff competition, Mississippi State continues to push hard. Turner has acknowledged the staff’s consistent effort, noting their focus on rebuilding the program and establishing a strong culture under head coach Jeff Lebby.

The Bulldogs may not be out front, but they still have an opportunity to make a move—especially with Turner’s official visit to Starkville scheduled for June 19–21, which will be his final stop. That timing could work in Mississippi State’s favor as they aim to leave a lasting impression.

Turner has made it clear that relationships will play a major role in his decision. He plans to take all of his official visits before committing, prioritizing trust and comfort with the coaching staff.

For Mississippi State, staying in the race is an important step. Now, the focus shifts to June, when the program will have its best chance to close the gap and potentially sway one of the state’s top prospects.
