Houston Set to Welcome Top-100 Recruit for Key Visit
The Houston Cougars remain on a strong run in recruiting, continuing to generate buzz under head coach Willie Fritz as more high-level prospects take interest in the program.
Houston has already secured six commitments in its 2027 class, currently ranked No. 27 nationally by 247Sports. With plenty of time left to build, the Cougars appear on track to assemble a class that could land comfortably in the top 25, signaling steady progress for the program.
That upward momentum follows a solid 2026 class that finished No. 32 in the country but grabbed national attention thanks to five-star quarterback Keisean Henderson. The Houston native, who held offers from powerhouse programs like Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Michigan, and Texas, chose to stay home and became the highest-rated recruit in school history.
Looking ahead, the Cougars are now targeting four-star defensive lineman Xavier Muhammad as they aim to strengthen their 2027 group.
Muhammad recently shared his upcoming visit schedule, which includes a stop in Houston on May 28, along with trips to Arizona State, Vanderbilt, Stanford, Miami, TCU, and Michigan.
However, Houston faces stiff competition. Muhammad noted that Kentucky and Miami currently stand out the most to him, citing their high-energy practices and coaching staffs that emphasize accountability and player development.
The South Houston High School standout is ranked No. 91 nationally, the No. 10 defensive lineman, and No. 12 overall player in Texas. In addition to his football talent, he’s also a standout on the basketball court, averaging 15.1 points and 12.5 rebounds as a sophomore.
With Muhammad planning to announce his commitment later this summer, Houston’s upcoming visit will be crucial. If the Cougars hope to stay in contention, they’ll need to make a strong and lasting impression.
