Texas Tech Brings in Top Transfer Guard Prospect Amid Backcourt Needs
After a relatively slow start to the offseason, Texas Tech may be picking up steam as one of the top guards in the transfer portal makes a visit to Lubbock.
Davis played a key role in Hofstra’s strong season, helping fuel the team’s success and earning attention as a potential Cinderella contender heading into the tournament. While that run didn’t materialize, Davis still proved he has the talent to compete at a higher level—something Texas Tech can offer.
The Red Raiders have been mostly inactive in the portal up to this point, but this development could signal a turning point. With Christian Anderson not returning and Jaylen Petty transferring to UCLA, the team has a significant gap at point guard. Adding Davis would go a long way toward stabilizing that position and strengthening the roster for next season.
Ranked as a four-star transfer and No. 28 overall prospect by 247Sports, Davis is widely viewed as one of the top remaining point guards available. Missing out on him could leave Texas Tech in a difficult spot as options in the portal continue to shrink.
That’s why it’s encouraging for head coach Grant McCasland and his staff to finally gain traction in their recruiting efforts.
Another factor working in Texas Tech’s favor is Davis’s Texas roots—he’s originally from Plano. A return to his home state could make Lubbock an appealing destination.
While the transfer portal is always unpredictable, landing Davis could provide a much-needed boost and help shift the outlook for Red Raiders basketball in a more positive direction.
