Silverfield Keeps Momentum Going as Arkansas Secures Eli Thornton Commitment
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — New Razorbacks head coach Ryan Silverfield is continuing to build strong ties in Northeast Arkansas, landing a commitment Sunday from Valley View three-star defensive lineman Eli Thornton.
The 6-foot-3, 315-pound tackle had originally planned to announce his decision on the Fourth of July but chose to commit earlier than expected.
Thornton’s recruitment gained traction quickly this offseason, starting with his first FBS offer from Wyoming in January. From there, interest poured in from multiple programs as his stock continued to rise. Although Arkansas had been monitoring him, the official offer didn’t come until early March after an unofficial campus visit.
That timing didn’t hurt, though. Thornton emphasized that the Razorbacks’ honest approach and the coaching staff’s belief in his abilities made a lasting impression and ultimately influenced his decision to stay in-state.
A major factor for him was the opportunity to represent Arkansas, along with the strong relationships he built with the defensive line coaches, who consistently supported both him and his family throughout the process.
Silverfield has been preaching an “all in” mentality as he looks to rebuild the program, and that message clearly resonated with Thornton, who pointed to the coach’s commitment to elevating Arkansas as a key reason behind his pledge.
Thornton held offers from several notable programs, including Wisconsin, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Illinois, Kansas State, Cincinnati, and Oklahoma State. He’s also part of a growing group of prospects putting Valley View on the recruiting map, alongside teammate Carter Wallace, a highly sought-after running back in the 2027 class.
On the field, Thornton has been highly disruptive, tallying 24 tackles, 18 tackles for loss, and four sacks during his junior season. He’s also made strides physically, showcasing impressive strength in the weight room and improved quickness.
His commitment marks another step forward in Arkansas’ efforts to secure in-state talent—something that had been inconsistent in previous coaching eras. Silverfield appears to be changing that trend by prioritizing local recruiting and strengthening relationships within Arkansas.
With Thornton now in the fold, the Razorbacks’ 2027 recruiting class continues to take shape and is expected to climb in the rankings as the staff pursues additional top prospects nationwide.
