Florida Gators Beat Georgia for Four-Star Safety in 2027 Recruiting Win
The Florida Gators continue building momentum in their 2027 recruiting class, adding another key piece with the commitment of four-star safety Kailib Dillard.
Florida recently edged out rival Georgia, along with Oregon, to land Dillard, a standout from Jenks High School in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The 6-foot-2, 185-pound defensive back is ranked as the No. 24 safety and No. 243 overall prospect in the 2027 class, according to Rivals.
Dillard revealed his decision through the Rivals YouTube Channel and had previously been projected to choose Florida by recruiting analysts.
Why Dillard Chose Florida
He pointed to the program’s direction under head coach Jon Sumrall, along with Florida’s resources, SEC competitiveness, and defensive scheme fit as major factors in his decision.
“Coach Sumrall’s success, the resources at Florida, and the chance to compete in the SEC really stood out,” Dillard said. He also emphasized that the Gators’ defensive scheme allows him to play multiple roles and showcase his versatility.
A graphic shared on social media confirmed his commitment, with Dillard choosing Florida over both Georgia and Oregon.
Recruiting Momentum Building
Dillard becomes the first safety in Florida’s 2027 class and the third defensive back overall. He initially received his offer in January, visited campus in March, and is scheduled for an official visit in June. Since that first visit, Florida has maintained strong momentum in his recruitment.
His commitment also adds to a growing wave of recent additions for the Gators. He is the second pledge this month, joining four-star offensive tackle Elijah Hutcheson, bringing Florida’s total to 12 commits in the cycle so far.
More commitments could be on the way soon, with several top targets—both offensive and defensive—either trending toward or preparing to announce decisions in Florida’s favor.
Broader Recruiting Picture
Florida’s 2027 class is shaping up to be one of the strongest in the country, currently ranked as high as No. 6 nationally. The group already includes multiple high-profile prospects across several positions.
Head coach Jon Sumrall has also credited the program’s recruiting success to a mix of academic appeal, campus environment, program tradition, and strong personal relationships with recruits.
As Florida continues to stack commitments, the Gators appear to be gaining serious traction on the recruiting trail heading into the next cycle.
