Syracuse Gives Connecticut DB His First Power 4 Offer: ‘I’m Grateful’
Rising 2028 defensive back Ryan Sims from Suffield (CT) Academy recently received his first Power 4 college offer from Syracuse after visiting the campus in April.
Sims has been attracting attention from programs such as Rutgers, Penn State, Boston College, and UMass. His first collegiate offer came from Connecticut in January, followed by Rhode Island in April. On April 11, Syracuse extended an offer during his visit for the spring game, marking his first from a Power 4 school.
“I really enjoyed my visit,” Sims told The Juice Online. “I’m very grateful for the Syracuse offer.”
Campus Visit and Connection
During his trip to Central New York, Sims toured the facilities, met the coaching staff, and spent significant time with defensive backs coach Stack Williams, who officially extended the offer.
“I really liked Coach Stack,” Sims said. “I appreciated how he connected with everyone visiting, no matter where they were in the recruiting process.”
Sims also learned about Syracuse’s D.A.R.T. philosophy—detailed, accountable, relentless, tough—introduced by head coach Fran Brown.
Attraction to Syracuse’s Culture
Sims was drawn to the program’s culture and player development, noting the school’s success in preparing defensive backs for the ACC and professional opportunities. Brown has coached several players now in the NFL, including Justin Barrons, Alijah Clark, Clarence Lewis, and Isaiah Johnson.
“I love the program overall and what it stands for,” Sims said. “Coach Stack and I also connected personally, which was great.”
After a tough 1-8 season in 2025, Sims is focused on making 2026 a breakout year.
“My true breakout season will be my junior year,” he said. “I felt I held back last season and could have made more plays.”
Sims describes himself as a patient, long defensive back who thrives in one-on-one coverage and aims to make quarterbacks think twice before throwing his way.
