Steelers Add Former Bears DB Quindell Johnson
The Pittsburgh Steelers are strengthening their safety position with the addition of former Chicago Bears defensive back Quindell Johnson, according to his agency, Universal Sports Management.
The 25-year-old Johnson has appeared in nine NFL games, all during the 2023 season, recording three tackles and one interception. An undrafted safety out of Memphis in 2023, he initially signed with the Los Angeles Rams as a rookie. He’s since had stints with the Bears in 2024 and the San Francisco 49ers in the same season.
The Steelers have a crowded safety group, with several players vying for spots on the 53-man roster as training camp approaches. Johnson will compete alongside Sebastian Castro for a chance to make the team, aiming to stand out ahead of veterans like Juan Thornhill and Miles Killebrew.
Pittsburgh typically carries four to five safeties on their active roster, with Minkah Fitzpatrick, DeShon Elliott, and Thornhill expected to secure three of those spots. Killebrew is likely the frontrunner for the fourth spot. Castro, an undrafted rookie from Iowa, could be Johnson’s toughest competition for a roster position.
