NBA Mock Trade: Rockets Target MVP-Caliber Star in Hypothetical Deal
The Houston Rockets are at a pivotal point this offseason. Last year, they made a major push to “win now” by trading assets for Kevin Durant, but his return to Texas fell short, ending in a first-round playoff exit.
Now, Houston has the chance to upgrade their roster, but questions remain about which players to trade and who should be the target. Several high-profile players could be available this summer, but one stands out: Jaylen Brown.
Brown enjoyed the best season of his career, averaging 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game with shooting splits of 48/35/80. He finished sixth in MVP voting while leading a shorthanded Boston Celtics team to the second seed in the Eastern Conference, despite missing Jayson Tatum for most of the season.
Trade speculation has intensified as Brown’s value peaks, and Boston may look to adjust their roster to balance talent and future assets.

- Boston Celtics Receive: Kevin Durant, Dorian Finney-Smith, 2027 first-round pick (via PHX), 2028 first-round pick, 2026 second-round pick (No. 39)
In this scenario, Houston would save over $4 million while adding a proven two-way star in Brown. Hauser, despite a down year, could contribute as an elite three-point shooter in the right role.
For Boston, the trade brings back a 37-year-old Durant, who remains a highly efficient scorer, along with Finney-Smith for 3&D depth, plus multiple valuable draft picks, including a 2027 first-rounder from Phoenix. The Celtics would gain both immediate scoring impact and long-term assets.
