Oregon Ducks Gain Traction in Tight End Recruiting with Four-Star Target
The Oregon Ducks, already strong in securing top defensive recruits for 2027, are making progress on the offensive side, particularly at the tight end position. Four-star prospect Anthony Cartwright III recently visited Eugene and could be the key addition the Ducks are seeking.
Cartwright, a 6-5, 235-pound tight end from Detroit, Michigan, is ranked among the top 30 tight ends nationally for 2027 and eighth in Michigan according to Rivals. He narrowed his choices to five schools: Oregon, Michigan, Michigan State, Miami, and LSU, and has set a commitment date for June 28. His official visit to Oregon is scheduled for June 19, and the timing could benefit the Ducks as the trip is still fresh in his mind.
In a recent interview with Rivals, Cartwright highlighted Oregon’s stability under coach Dan Lanning, the culture, and the program’s consistent success as major draws. While his home-state Michigan Wolverines remain a strong contender, Oregon’s staff and environment have kept the Ducks high on his list.
A big factor in his recruitment is new offensive coordinator Drew Mehringer, who previously coached tight ends at Oregon and helped develop NFL talents like Kenyon Sadiq and Terrance Ferguson. Mehringer also coached current Duck Jamari Johnson, who is expected to have an expanded role this season.
Although Oregon doesn’t yet have a committed tight end in the 2027 class, the program already has talented players like incoming five-star Kendre Harrison and redshirt freshman transfer Andrew Olesh. Adding Cartwright would give the Ducks a strong trio of tight ends ready to compete for starting roles in 2027 and beyond.
