NY Rangers Eye Canucks’ $38.5M Goal-Scorer
The New York Rangers are shaping up as one of the most interesting teams to watch this offseason. Following another disappointing 2025-26 campaign that prompted a roster retool, the team is expected to be active in both trades and acquisitions.
While some players may be moved before the 2026-27 season, the Rangers could also add talent that provides long-term value. One player now being suggested as a target is Vancouver Canucks forward Jake DeBrusk.
In a recent Athletic article, Peter Baugh and Vince Z. Mercogliano highlighted DeBrusk as a potential trade option. Though he has a full no-movement clause that could block a deal, DeBrusk offers a proven scoring boost, having scored at least 23 goals in four of the past five seasons.
DeBrusk, who carries a $5.5 million cap hit through 2030-31, could slot onto New York’s second line with J.T. Miller and Will Cuylle, or even play on the first line thanks to his versatility. He would also strengthen the team’s power play.
His recent production underscores his impact: he led Vancouver with 23 goals and 42 points in 81 games this past season, following a career-high 28 goals and 48 points the year prior.
The Rangers won’t have exclusive interest in DeBrusk, as his scoring ability and favorable contract are likely to attract attention from multiple NHL teams—especially with this year’s free-agent class considered weak.
For a Rangers team seeking additional scoring, DeBrusk could be a meaningful addition as they aim to compete in 2026-27.
