The Yellow Jackets continue to roll and are closing in on a top 25 class
Georgia Tech has secured its first linebacker pledge for the 2027 recruiting class with the commitment of Jason Crenshaw. The Alabama native is rated as a three-star prospect, ranked No. 35 in the state and No. 78 among linebackers nationally.
Crenshaw made his decision shortly after taking an official visit to Georgia Tech, continuing a strong stretch of recruiting success for the Yellow Jackets. His commitment follows that of former Carver Montgomery teammate Kalib Spivey, who announced his pledge to Georgia Tech the week before. The two likely discussed the possibility of reuniting in Atlanta. Crenshaw now attends Prattville High School after transferring during the offseason.
On film, Crenshaw stands out primarily as an outside linebacker and edge defender. His quick burst off the line, ability to bend around blockers, and physical playing style make him a disruptive presence. He brings toughness and aggression to the edge while also offering positional flexibility. Although Georgia Tech already has several edge rushers committed in the class, Crenshaw’s versatility could allow him to contribute in multiple roles, including potentially as an off-ball linebacker. His ability to move around the defense should provide added options for creative schemes and pressure packages.
There was some uncertainty about whether Georgia Tech would prioritize another linebacker after signing Kymani Morales, Braylon Outlaw, and CJ Gamble in the previous cycle. By landing Crenshaw, the Yellow Jackets add a hybrid defender capable of filling a variety of roles, strengthening the overall makeup of the class.
As for the broader recruiting picture, Georgia Tech’s 2027 class continues to gain momentum. According to Rivals, the Yellow Jackets currently hold the No. 26 recruiting class nationally and rank sixth in the ACC. With 17 commitments already in place, the coaching staff can afford to be more selective moving forward while still pursuing several high-end prospects. A top-25 recruiting class remains a realistic goal, and head coach Brent Key’s recent recruiting success has helped position Georgia Tech as an increasingly competitive destination for top talent.
