The Indiana Fever return to the court Saturday for a road matchup against the Connecticut Sun as part of the 2026 WNBA Commissioner’s Cup. Indiana is aiming to make history by becoming the first franchise to capture consecutive Commissioner’s Cup championships.
The season has featured its share of highs and lows for the Fever, largely due to Caitlin Clark’s ongoing back issues. The star guard has already missed a game because of the injury, and the organization has taken a cautious approach with her workload after she appeared in only 13 games last season while dealing with multiple injuries.
Caitlin Clark’s Injury Status vs. Sun
According to the Indiana Fever’s latest injury report, Caitlin Clark is considered probable for Saturday’s game as she continues to manage a back issue. Clark has remained on the injury report since the league issued a warning to the Fever last month regarding the handling of her injury designation ahead of a matchup with the Portland Fire.
Prior to Indiana’s May 20 contest against Portland, Clark was not originally included on the injury report. Her late scratch before tip-off caught many by surprise, especially since she had been receiving treatment for back discomfort during the early stages of the season.
The Fever star has acknowledged the injury publicly but has generally downplayed concerns about its severity. Despite dealing with the issue, Clark has continued to produce at a high level, averaging 19.9 points, 4.7 rebounds, and 8.1 assists per game. Outside of some shooting inconsistencies, she has remained one of the league’s most impactful players.
Clark’s status is expected to be reviewed again before game time. Barring any unexpected developments, she is anticipated to be available when the Fever take the floor against Connecticut.
Caitlin Clark’s Historic Night in Win vs. Sky
The Indiana Fever overcame a dramatic second-half collapse Thursday night, recovering after surrendering a 19-point advantage to defeat the Chicago Sky 114-108 in overtime.
Caitlin Clark led the way with 32 points, seven rebounds, and 10 assists, while Aliyah Boston delivered one of the best performances of her career, posting 34 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, and two blocks.
According to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou, Clark and Boston became the first duo in WNBA history to each record a 30-point double-double in the same game.
Clark also reached another notable milestone during the victory. With her performance, she matched Indiana Fever icon Tamika Catchings for the most 30-point double-doubles in franchise history, with three.
The Fever noted another historic accomplishment as well. Clark’s third career game featuring at least 30 points and 10 assists is already the most such performances by any player in WNBA history. Remarkably, the rest of the league has combined for only four games meeting those benchmarks.
Clark’s Career Stats vs. Sun
In six career regular-season matchups against the Connecticut Sun, Caitlin Clark has averaged 16.7 points, 2.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. She owns a 3-3 record against Connecticut during that span. Injuries limited her to just one meeting with the Sun last season.
That lone appearance against Connecticut on July 15 also proved costly, as Clark suffered her second groin strain of the season during the game. The injury ultimately brought her sophomore campaign to an early conclusion.
