Duke Basketball Makes Contact with Another Elite 2028 Prospect
Duke’s coaching staff continues to expand its recruiting efforts in the 2028 class, reaching out to another highly regarded prospect following the opening of direct communication between college coaches and rising high school juniors.
On Thursday, five-star guard Brady Pettigrew of Bolingbrook High School in Illinois revealed to League Ready’s Sam Kayser that he had been contacted by Jon Scheyer and the Duke basketball staff. The Blue Devils are among a long list of programs that have recently expressed interest in the talented guard.
Other schools that have reached out include Illinois, Texas Tech, DePaul, Kansas, Michigan State, Kentucky, California, USC, Auburn, Georgia Tech, Villanova, Penn State, BYU, Ohio State, Florida State, Notre Dame, North Carolina, Seton Hall, Texas, Missouri, Florida, Memphis, NC State, and LSU.
Pettigrew, a 6-foot-3, 185-pound standout, is currently ranked No. 14 overall in the 247Sports Composite rankings for the 2028 class. He is also considered the nation’s top combo guard and the No. 1 player in Illinois.
Recruiting analyst Connor Goodson praised Pettigrew’s athleticism and scoring ability, noting that he excels at attacking the basket and finishing through contact. While currently viewed more as a wing player, Pettigrew has begun to show signs of developing into a lead guard.
The highly sought-after prospect has already collected more than two dozen scholarship offers, including several from ACC programs such as NC State, Florida State, Georgia Tech, and Virginia Tech.
Additional 2028 Targets on Duke’s Radar
Pettigrew is not the only elite 2028 recruit hearing from Duke this week. Reports indicate the Blue Devils have also initiated contact with several other top prospects in the class.
Among them is AJ Williams, a five-star forward from Georgia and the No. 1 overall player in the 2028 rankings. Duke has also shown interest in two premier centers: five-star Californian Yann Kamagate, ranked No. 5 nationally, and IMG Academy’s Dylan Betts, a 7-foot-3 center who currently sits at No. 15 overall.
Another major name linked to Duke is five-star forward Colton Hiller of Pennsylvania, who ranks No. 2 nationally and has been drawing attention from the Blue Devils for several months.
Despite the recent activity, Duke has not yet extended an official scholarship offer to any member of the 2028 class.
As for the 2027 cycle, only two prospects currently hold offers from the Blue Devils: four-star forward Kager Knueppel from Wisconsin and five-star guard Beckham Black from Florida’s Southeastern Prep Academy.
