Nebraska Lands 2027 Defensive Back Brennan Drummond
Nebraska has secured a commitment from defensive back Brennan Drummond, adding another key piece to what is shaping up to be one of the nation’s strongest 2027 secondary recruiting classes. Less than a month after receiving an offer from the Huskers, the three-star safety announced his decision on Sunday, becoming Nebraska’s 20th commitment overall and the fifth defensive back in the class.
The 6-foot, 185-pound standout from North Oconee High School in Bogart, Georgia, chose Nebraska over several notable programs, including Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, and Wake Forest. Despite holding 15 Division I offers, Drummond needed only one visit to Lincoln to determine that Matt Rhule’s program was the best fit for him.
His commitment further strengthens Nebraska’s defensive back group for 2027, providing another versatile option in the secondary. Under first-year safeties coach Tyler Yelk, the Huskers continue to build impressive depth and flexibility at the position.
Drummond’s pledge comes shortly after Nebraska landed highly regarded cornerback Jailen Hill, who committed on June 16 following an official visit to Lincoln. Both recruits were among a large group of prospects who visited campus together, highlighting the strong camaraderie developing within the Huskers’ recruiting class.
The Georgia native becomes Nebraska’s seventh commitment from the Peach State, joining Jordan Agbanoma, Corey Hadley Jr., Timi Aliu, Joey Hunter, Eli Harris, and KD Jones. His addition further reinforces Nebraska’s growing recruiting presence in Georgia and adds to an increasingly impressive 2027 haul.
Looking ahead, Drummond could find opportunities to contribute early. Nebraska currently has eight safeties on its roster, but two veterans are expected to exhaust their eligibility after the 2026 season. By the time Drummond arrives in Lincoln, competition for playing time will remain fierce, but openings could emerge within the position group.
The Huskers are expected to rely on veterans Dwayne McDougle and Jamir Conn this season, while younger players such as Jasin Shiggs, Justyn Rhett, Caleb Benning, and Rex Guthrie continue developing into larger roles. Although the safety room remains deep, the long-term depth chart is far from settled, giving incoming recruits a chance to make an impact.
Nebraska’s 2027 safety class already features highly regarded prospects Corey Hadley Jr. and Tory Pittman III, both considered among the top players at their position. Drummond’s commitment suggests the coaching staff believes he can compete alongside those recruits and potentially contribute early in his career.
Meanwhile, the recruitment of four-star safety Tory Pittman III remains a storyline to watch. Committed to Nebraska since August 2025, Pittman has continued exploring other opportunities, including recent visits to LSU and Miami. While he remains pledged to the Huskers, several programs are still actively pursuing him.
Whether Nebraska’s continued additions to the secondary are connected to Pittman’s ongoing recruitment is uncertain. However, landing Drummond gives the Huskers additional depth and flexibility regardless of how Pittman’s situation unfolds. For now, Pittman remains committed to Nebraska, but his recruitment is unlikely to be considered settled until signing day.
