Michigan Gaining Momentum in Pursuit of 2027 Four-Star CB Monsanna Torbert After Big Visit Weekend
Michigan may have taken a major step forward in its pursuit of elite 2027 cornerback Monsanna Torbert following a strong showing during “Victors Weekend” in Ann Arbor. While his recruitment is still open, the Wolverines now appear to be in a favorable position against Ohio State.
Torbert, a former Indiana commit who had been trending toward the Buckeyes, was initially uncertain to attend the event. However, he ultimately made the trip and was one of 22 official visitors on campus—an appearance that may have shifted the momentum in Michigan’s favor.
Following the visit, multiple recruiting analysts have logged predictions favoring the Wolverines. On3’s Allen Trieu and Ethan McDowell both projected Michigan to land the Ohio standout, with confidence levels of 65% and 70%, respectively.
The 5-foot-11, 175-pound defensive back from Princeton High School in Cincinnati is considered one of Ohio’s top prospects in the 2027 class. He is ranked among the nation’s top cornerbacks and is also one of the highest-rated players in his state. His recruitment has drawn national attention, with offers from programs such as Alabama, Auburn, Florida State, and Texas, among others.
Torbert has built a reputation as a versatile defensive back with playmaking ability. During the 2025 season, he recorded 40 tackles, three interceptions, and three pass breakups on defense. He also contributed significantly on offense, throwing for 1,791 yards and 26 touchdowns while adding 450 rushing yards and four scores.
Michigan’s pursuit of Torbert comes as the program focuses heavily on rebuilding and strengthening its secondary. With multiple starters expected to depart after the 2026 season and overall depth still developing, the Wolverines are prioritizing defensive backs in the 2027 cycle.
The coaching staff has already secured several defensive back commitments in the class and continues to target additional top-tier talent. Along with Torbert, Michigan is also in strong contention for other elite prospects, including four-star safety Marcus Jones and five-star cornerback Joshua Dobson, both of whom also visited Ann Arbor over the weekend.
If Michigan can close on its top remaining targets, the 2027 defensive back group could emerge as one of the strongest recruiting hauls in the nation. For now, however, Torbert’s upcoming July 1 decision remains one of the key storylines to watch in this recruitment battle with Ohio State.
