Former Steelers RB Najee Harris Linked as Possible Bengals Free-Agent Target
Could the Cincinnati Bengals bolster their backfield with a familiar AFC North face? One NFL analyst believes former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris could be a logical fit.
Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton recently identified Cincinnati as a potential landing spot for Harris, who enters free agency looking to bounce back after an injury-shortened season with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Harris Could Fill a Valuable Role
Before injuries derailed his 2025 campaign, Harris had established himself as one of the NFL’s most dependable running backs. He played every game during his first four seasons with the Steelers before an eye injury during the offseason and a torn Achilles in Week 3 limited him to just three games with the Chargers.
After signing a one-year, $9.5 million contract in 2025, Harris is expected to command a significantly lower salary this offseason. He finished last season with just 15 carries for 61 yards before suffering the season-ending injury.
That reduced price tag could make him an appealing option for Cincinnati.
Why the Bengals Could Be Interested
The Bengals already have an established starter in Chase Brown, meaning Harris wouldn’t be asked to carry the workload. Instead, he could provide a complementary skill set as a physical, downhill runner capable of handling short-yardage and goal-line situations.
At 6-foot-1 and 242 pounds, Harris has built his reputation on power running rather than explosive speed. His size and physical style could give Cincinnati another option in critical situations, particularly late in games and in the red zone.
Having faced Harris twice each season during his time with Pittsburgh, the Bengals are well aware of the challenges he presents when healthy.
Risk Comes With Potential Reward
Any team considering Harris must weigh the uncertainty surrounding his recovery from a torn Achilles, one of the most difficult injuries for running backs to overcome.
Still, his durability and production prior to 2025 suggest he could offer value if he returns to form and is available at the right price.
Moton also mentioned the Green Bay Packers as another possible destination for Harris. For Cincinnati, however, the veteran would represent a cost-effective addition capable of strengthening the running back rotation without dramatically changing the structure of the offense.
