Arkansas Eyes Pair of Commitments to Strengthen 2027 Recruiting Class
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas is looking to build on its recruiting momentum this summer as the Razorbacks await commitment decisions from two priority 2027 prospects: running back Asa Barnes and wide receiver Aden Starling.
The coaching staff continues to emphasize adding speed, versatility, and playmaking ability, and both recruits fit that vision as Arkansas works to strengthen its future roster.
Asa Barnes Brings Balance to the Backfield
Barnes has emerged as one of Arkansas’ top running back targets thanks to his combination of power, vision, and receiving ability.
The 6-foot, 200-pound standout from Martin, Tennessee, excels as both a traditional runner and a pass-catching threat. His decisive one-cut running style fits well in zone-based rushing schemes, while his ability to contribute on wheel routes, screens, and angle routes makes him a true dual-threat option.
As a junior, Barnes rushed for 1,208 yards and 25 touchdowns while adding 567 receiving yards and six more scores through the air.
Following his official visit to Fayetteville in late May, Arkansas has been viewed as the favorite to secure his commitment. Barnes is currently ranked No. 538 nationally, the No. 37 running back in the country, and the No. 24 overall prospect in Tennessee.
Aden Starling Adds Speed on the Perimeter
Starling offers a different dimension as a receiver, relying on smooth route-running and explosive athleticism to create separation.
Standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 175 pounds, the Texas product has the speed to stretch defenses vertically while also possessing the body control to make contested catches downfield.
The consensus three-star prospect is ranked No. 72 among wide receivers nationally and No. 78 overall in Texas by Rivals.
Arkansas and LSU are widely considered the top contenders for Starling, who finished his junior season with 41 receptions for 405 yards and seven touchdowns.
How They Would Fit Arkansas’ Offense
Barnes would provide Arkansas with a versatile offensive weapon capable of contributing in multiple personnel packages. His ability to run between the tackles, catch passes out of the backfield, and thrive in run-pass option concepts would give the Razorbacks additional flexibility on offense.
His physical running style could help keep the offense on schedule while forcing defenses to respect both the run and pass.
Starling’s skill set complements Arkansas’ offensive philosophy in a different way. His ability to stretch the field vertically would create more space underneath for teammates while opening passing lanes across the middle.
He is particularly effective on crossing routes, where his acceleration allows him to turn short completions into explosive gains. As he continues to develop, Starling has the potential to become a reliable outside target capable of stressing opposing secondaries.
Building Toward the Future
Landing commitments from prospects in Tennessee and Texas would represent another positive step for first-year head coach Ryan Silverfield as he works to establish Arkansas’ recruiting identity.
Adding Barnes and Starling would not only strengthen the Razorbacks’ 2027 class but also help build recruiting momentum heading into future cycles. If Arkansas can secure both commitments, the program would add two dynamic offensive playmakers with the potential to make an impact for years to come.
