Ohio State Appears Unlikely to Flip Nebraska’s 2027 Quarterback Commit

Ohio State enjoyed a productive June on the recruiting trail, adding several high-profile prospects across multiple recruiting classes, including multiple five-star commitments. After a relatively quiet start to the cycle, the Buckeyes gained significant momentum.

One position that remains uncertain, however, is quarterback in the 2027 class. Ohio State currently has Brady Edmunds committed, but questions have lingered about whether he’ll ultimately remain in the class, especially if the Buckeyes pursue another quarterback.

Earlier in the recruiting cycle, Ohio State was linked to Nebraska quarterback commit Trae Taylor as a potential flip target. Since then, Taylor has elevated his recruiting profile from four-star to five-star status, making him one of the nation’s premier prospects.

Trae Taylor Seems Firmly Committed to Nebraska

Despite Ohio State’s reported interest, a flip now appears unlikely. Taylor, a Nebraska native, has been committed to the Cornhuskers since May 2025, and there has been little indication that Ryan Day’s staff is making a strong push to change that.

Instead, the Buckeyes appear to have shifted their attention back toward maintaining their relationship with Edmunds, who remains committed. If that commitment holds, Ohio State may no longer feel the need to pursue another quarterback in the 2027 cycle.

Quarterback Depth Isn’t an Immediate Concern

Even with Edmunds in the class, earning playing time won’t be easy for any incoming quarterback. Julian Sayin is expected to lead the Buckeyes before likely entering the NFL Draft, while highly regarded quarterback Tavien St. Clair is widely viewed as the favorite to take over as the program’s next starter.

With that succession plan already in place, Ohio State doesn’t face immediate pressure to add another elite quarterback in the 2027 class.

Buckeyes Focused on Other Priorities

Rather than continuing to recruit another quarterback, Ohio State appears more focused on strengthening other positions and securing several remaining five-star targets. As long as Edmunds stays committed, the Buckeyes have sufficient quarterback depth in the pipeline.

Should the need arise in the future, the transfer portal remains another avenue to address the position, reducing the urgency to sign multiple quarterbacks in a single recruiting class.

Currently holding the nation’s No. 9 recruiting class, Ohio State’s primary objective is preserving its existing commitments while continuing to add elite talent before December’s signing period.
