Cowboys Add Offensive Lineman, Release Injured Edge Rusher Ahead of First Padded Practice
As the Dallas Cowboys prepare for their first padded practice of training camp on Monday, the team has adjusted its roster by signing offensive lineman Sebastian Gutierrez and waiving edge rusher Charles Snowden with an injury designation.
Gutierrez recently participated in a workout with Dallas alongside free-agent lineman LeRoy Watson before earning a contract.
Snowden, who joined the Cowboys in June, was suspended for three games after violating the NFL’s personal conduct policy following a guilty plea to a DUI charge earlier this year. According to ESPN’s Todd Archer, Snowden is currently dealing with a groin injury. If he goes unclaimed on waivers, he will revert to the team’s injured reserve list, sidelining him for the entire 2026 season unless the Cowboys reach an injury settlement with him.
Gutierrez entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent with the Denver Broncos in 2022 and has since spent time with the New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, Kansas City Chiefs, San Francisco 49ers, Cleveland Browns, and Indianapolis Colts.
The 27-year-old has appeared in only two NFL games—one with the Raiders in 2022 and another with the 49ers in 2024. His only offensive snaps came in Week 14 of the 2024 season, when he played three snaps at right tackle for San Francisco.
What Gutierrez’s Signing Means
While adding offensive line depth is generally beneficial, Gutierrez is viewed primarily as a training camp addition rather than someone expected to make an immediate impact on the active roster.
He will compete for a reserve role during camp, but his most realistic path to remaining with the Cowboys is by earning a place on the practice squad.
The move also raises the possibility that Dallas is dealing with an unreported injury along the offensive line, prompting the need for additional depth. As of Saturday, the team’s reported injuries involved defensive players Jalen Thompson (hip), P.J. Locke (knee), and Zion Childress (hamstring), with no offensive linemen listed.
More clarity is expected when the Cowboys take the field for Monday’s first padded training camp practice.
