We can’t #SendVillari anymore but that doesn’t mean the tight end room lacks options
We’re wrapping up our breakdown of the Syracuse Orange offense by taking a closer look at the tight end room. Syracuse will have to find a way to replace the versatility that Dan Villari brought to the offense, and doing so could require contributions from multiple players.
Here’s a look at the players currently listed at tight end as the Orange prepare for the upcoming season:

- Carter Bashir
- David Clement
- Noah Meyers
- Elijah Washington-Baker
David Clement enters the season as the most experienced tight end on Syracuse’s roster, though much of his previous work has come as a blocker. With his size and physicality, Clement has the potential to become a valuable red-zone target if the Orange expand his role in the passing game.
Clement should have a strong chance to earn a starting role this season, but it may be unrealistic to expect a significant jump in his number of targets.
Noah Meyers enters the season with the strongest receiving résumé of the group. During his time at Western Kentucky last season, he recorded 32 receptions for 357 yards. When he joined Syracuse, there was an expectation that he would become an important piece of the passing attack. However, reports from fall camp suggest his run-blocking ability could put him behind David Clement on the depth chart. Still, with injuries and turnover affecting the wide receiver room, Meyers could carve out a significant role in the passing game and develop into one of quarterback Steve Angeli’s favorite targets.
Elijah Washington-Baker may provide the best overall balance between blocking and receiving among Syracuse’s tight ends. He arrived with a reputation as an outstanding athlete, and as he continues to gain experience within the offense, he could make a push for more playing time.
Daunte Bacheyie is perhaps the tight end who most closely resembles former Syracuse standout Oronde Gadsden from a physical standpoint. Bacheyie has the size and speed to create matchup problems and could spend plenty of time lining up like a wide receiver. His skill set could also make him a valuable option in the red zone. He is particularly worth monitoring heading into 2027 as he continues developing as a blocker.
Carter Bashir may have a difficult time earning significant offensive snaps this season and could primarily contribute on special teams. That said, it’s never wise to overlook a player from Philadelphia.
