The Caribbean side began their campaign on the first day by posting a total of 339 runs before being all out, led by Kavem Hodge’s impressive 112. Alick Athanaze (74), Kirk McKenzie (73), and debutant opener Mikyle Louis (50) also contributed significantly with half-centuries.
On the following day, the Counties Select XI responded strongly, amassing 373 for four declared, thereby taking a 34-run lead. Their innings was marked by a brisk scoring rate of 4.39 runs per over, mirroring the West Indies’ aggressive approach on day one.
The hosts built solid partnerships throughout their innings, starting with a 56-run opening stand between Harry Singh (34) and captain Ben McKinney (22). Singh fell victim to Isai Thorne, a 19-year-old Guyanese seamer who joined the West Indies squad as a development player. Tom Prest (53) and Hamza Shaikh (84) continued the momentum with a 79-run partnership for the third wicket. Luxton proved to be the standout performer, remaining unbeaten with Harry Duke (46*) to forge an unbeaten 140-run partnership for the fifth wicket. Luxton’s aggressive batting propelled him to a brisk 112 off 130 balls, laced with 15 boundaries and three sixes.
