MLB star Carlos Correa surprisingly asserts that not landing a $300 million contract was the “best possible outcome” for him.

Carlos Correa is expressing gratitude for his current situation in Minnesota, despite missing out on a lucrative contract as a free agent in 2022. Two seasons ago, the 29-year-old shortstop was offered contracts exceeding $300millionbytheSanFranciscoGiantsandNewYorkMets.However,heultimatelysignedasix-yeardealwiththeTwinsfor$200 million, with additional vesting options for four more years.

Although teams hesitated to sign him during the 2022-23 offseason due to concerns about a previous ankle injury, Correa is currently achieving impressive statistics in Minnesota, boasting a .305 batting average, 11 home runs, and an .833 OPS. He is on track for his most successful year yet with the Twins.

“This is the best outcome for me and my family,” the three-time All-Star remarked to USA Today. “Although I can’t say what it would have been like elsewhere, Minnesota has provided a fantastic environment with supportive people who genuinely care about you. I feel at ease with these individuals and have grown to love them.”

Carlos Correa rejoined the Twins in 2022 as a free agent, securing a $200 million six-year contract. He emphasized the importance of family time, stating that his arrangement with the Twins enables him to consider early retirement.

Additionally, Correa expressed his belief that it would be simpler for him to retire if the Twins are unable to fulfill the guaranteed remainder of his contract and he desires to conclude his career earlier than planned.

“You know, having a six-year contract with options seems more appealing than committing to a 13-year deal, especially with the kids growing up so fast and needing a lot of attention,” Correa remarked. “At some point, I have to make the difficult decision of whether I want to continue playing or prioritize being with my family.”

“So, it’s much more manageable with the contract structure than it would be with a 13- or 12-year agreement. This is truly the best outcome for me and my family,” he added.

Correa’s position on his future in the MLB remains consistent with his earlier statement from spring training this year.

The 29-year-old shortstop has two children with his wife, Danielle Rodriguez, who is a former Miss Texas.

“I’m a laid-back person. I don’t hold onto grudges. It’s just part of the game. It’s part of the business. You have to move forward,” he expressed to The New York Post in March. “You can’t let that consume you. I have two kids now, and I have to set a good example. I’m very content with the life that God has given me and where he has placed me.”

Correa and his wife, Danielle Rodriguez, welcomed their second child in March 2023. Correa, who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft by the Astros, has built his family with his wife, former Miss Texas Danielle Rodriguez. He was previously honored as the AL Rookie of the Year in 2015 and clinched a World Series victory with the Houston Astros in 2017.
