Just a few weeks after committing to the University of Utah, wide receiver Tavian McNair has decided to decommit from the program.

The three-star receiver from California, who is the nephew of former Ute DeVonte Christopher, originally chose Utah last July, turning down offers from Cal, Kansas, and UNLV. He signed his financial aid agreement, which serves as an alternative to the National Letter of Intent, on December 4.

On Saturday, McNair, a member of the class of 2025, announced that he would be “going in a different direction” and has since been granted a release from the program.

During his senior year at Centennial High in Corona, California, McNair recorded 22 catches for 300 yards in nine games, according to his stats on MaxPreps. He was rated as the No. 121 wide receiver in the national class of 2025 by 247Sports composite ranking.

With McNair’s departure, Utah’s incoming receivers for the 2025 season include Otto Tia from Utah State, Ryan Davis from New Mexico, Creed Whittemore from Mississippi State, along with freshmen Bryson Baker and two-way player JJ Buchanan.
