Huge Possibility as New York Yankees could trade for a new closer ahead of July 30 MLB deadline

The New York Yankees began the season as one of the hottest teams in baseball, but as they approached the All-Star break, their performance has taken a noticeable downturn. No longer leading the AL East, the Yankees are facing a rapid decline.

Injuries have been a significant factor contributing to their struggles, prompting speculation that the Yankees may need to make additional roster moves before the MLB trade deadline on July 30.

According to MLB insider Jon Heyman, the Yankees are actively seeking improvements in several areas over the next two weeks. They are particularly focused on bolstering their infield and starting rotation. Additionally, despite having two-time All-Star Clay Holmes as their closer, there is interest in potentially acquiring another closer to strengthen their bullpen.

“They need bullpen help. Even though they have an All-Star closer in Holmes, they might consider acquiring another closer like Miller, Scott, or Estevez, if available,” noted Heyman. “While they value Holmes, who could remain the closer, they are looking to enhance the bullpen from various angles, making it a primary area of focus.”

As Heyman pointed out, Holmes recently earned his second All-Star nod, so any interest the Yankees have in acquiring another closer isn’t necessarily to replace him. However, having a reliable setup reliever who can handle critical moments is always beneficial, particularly as they aim for postseason success.

Acquiring Mason Miller from the Athletics could prove challenging, given reports that Oakland is seeking a significant return. Yet, Tanner Scott from Miami and Carlos Estevez from the Angels might be more feasible targets to pursue before the July 30 deadline expires.
