Reports: Paul Finebaum Gets Brutally Honest Which Major CFB Program Isn’t Ready To Compete In 2024

Several college football programs are exploring new horizons by joining different conferences. The USC Trojans, Washington Huskies, and Oregon Ducks are set to participate in the Big Ten, while the Colorado Buffaloes, Arizona Wildcats, Arizona State Sun Devils, and Utah Utes are slated to join the Big 12.

Two prominent teams, the Oklahoma Sooners and Texas Longhorns, are also undergoing a transition. They are making a move from the Big 12 to the SEC. Leading up to the 2024 season, Texas has garnered national attention following its recent College Football Playoff appearance, while Oklahoma has received slightly less recognition.

During an episode of The Matt Barrie Show, Paul Finebaum expressed his belief that the Sooners may not pose a significant challenge in the SEC in 2024, but they could become a formidable presence in the future.

“I don’t think they will be a factor this year,” Finebaum remarked. “But, their impact is definitely on the horizon.”

Finebaum highlighted the historical background and the present leadership as factors that could lead to Oklahoma emerging as a dominant presence in college football. He pointed out that the decision to extend head coach Brent Venables’ contract, despite not clinching a conference title or bowl victory, reflects the program’s strong commitment to its trajectory.

Finebaum expressed his admiration for Venables and underlined the significance of Venables’ departure from Clemson before the 2022 season. He stressed that Venables was among the most impactful coordinators he had witnessed in a program for quite some time.

Finebaum is optimistic about Oklahoma’s prospects for significant success in the upcoming period.
